The fastest diesel car on the planet will be making an appearance at the 24th annual JCB Lakeside 5 fun run to help raise money for the NSPCC.

But competitive runners fearing that they may be at a distinct disadvantage to the world record-breaking JCB Dieselmax car can sit easy. For while it is bound to prove the star attraction for participants and spectators alike, it will not be competing in the five-mile run, which takes place on Thursday, July 12.

The JCB Dieselmax car broke the land speed record for diesel powered vehicles last year when it reached 350.092mph.

Hundreds of people are expected to take part in the fun run, which traditionally attracts people of all ages, many dressed in fancy dress and often taking part for special reasons. As well as the main run, which starts at the JCB Lakeside Club, adjacent to the World Headquarters in Rocester, there is also a three-mile race for the under 16s and three-mile fun run for adults and children.

Prizes are given to the top three boys and girls in the three-mile event and the top three adults in the senior race. The top veterans in the over 40s and over 50s sections also receive prizes, and every runner gets a medal simply for participating.

Mick Smith, Chairman of the Fun Run Committee, said: “The event is always a big success and a lot of fun. Most importantly, we always raise much-needed money for charity.

“The JCB Dieselmax car is bound to prove a big hit and we’re delighted to have secured it. I’d urge anyone wanting to participate to get their application forms in as soon as possible because there is a limit on the number of people who can take part.”

The three-mile races starts at 6.30pm before the main event starts at 7pm. Entrance fees range from £5 to £8 with all profits going to the NSPCC. Entrants often choose to raise even more cash for charity by getting sponsored to take part in the event.

Entry forms are available from Mick Smith by calling 01889 593783, the JCB Lakeside Club on 01889 591057, or through the Uttoxeter Advertiser, the Ashbourne News Telegraph and Your Leek Paper.
