In a recent case during the construction of a new road by a major road contractor, the owners of a nearby plant complained that the high vibration caused by the rollers was affecting their operations. It was therefore suggested to use the VIO oscillation system instead.
Unlike traditional vibratory compactors that achieve compaction by ‘bouncing' of the drum on the ground, Hamm's unique oscillatory system ensures that the roller drums maintain constant contact with the ground. This results in transmitting only 15 percent of the vibration of vibratory systems, allowing the compactor to work close to vibration-sensitive buildings, over cables and underground pipe work, and even on bridge decks and inside car parks.
HAMM is currently the only manufacturer offering oscillatory vibration and yet the advantages of this innovative system are clear:
- better levels of compaction in fewer passes;
- less damage to the ground and surrounding area;
- improved working conditions for the operator;
- longer machine life.
